Privacy Policy for Latse

The Relune team ("we", "us", or "our") built the Latse app as a tool to assist trekkers. This page is used to inform users regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information for anyone deciding to use Latse.

By choosing to use Latse, you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. Latse is designed with privacy-first principles; the vast majority of data processing occurs locally on your device to ensure functionality in remote, offline environments.

1. Information Collection and Use

For a better experience while using Latse, we may require you to grant the app certain permissions to access hardware components and device data. We do not transmit this data to our own servers, nor do we store it externally. The app utilizes the following device permissions and data:

• Location Data (GPS): Latse requires continuous background and foreground location access to provide real-time trail navigation, calculate distances, determine your current altitude, and provide localized mountain weather forecasts.
• Camera Access: The app requires camera permissions strictly to access the device's hardware flash (Torch) for the "Sherpa Toolkit" flashlight feature. Latse does not capture, record, or transmit any photos or video footage.
• Device Sensors (Motion & Orientation): The app accesses your device's magnetometer and accelerometer to power the compass tool.
• Self-Reported Health Data: The "Safety Check" feature allows you to input physical symptoms (e.g., headache severity, fatigue, gastrointestinal issues) to calculate a Lake Louise Score for Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). This data is processed entirely within your device's active memory to provide immediate guidance and is never stored or transmitted.

2. Third-Party Services

While Latse does not use centralized servers to store your personal data, it does rely on specific third-party Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to function properly. When your device connects to these services, your location data (Latitude and Longitude) and IP address may be shared with them to fetch necessary environment data.

The app uses the following third-party services:

• OpenStreetMap (OSM): Used to fetch map tiles for trail navigation.
• wttr.in: Used to fetch current weather conditions and 3-day alpine forecasts based on your coordinates.
• Open-Meteo: Used as a fallback service to calculate precise elevation data if your device's GPS altitude is unavailable.

These third-party service providers have their own Privacy Policies addressing how they handle data. We encourage you to review them.

3. Data Storage and Security

We value your trust in providing your information. Latse operates on a local-first architecture. Any data you input into the app (such as packing checklists, readiness scores, and emergency contacts) remains local to your device's active session.

Because we do not transmit your personal data to remote databases, the security of your information relies heavily on the physical and software security of your personal device. We strongly advise utilizing device-level protections, such as PIN codes or biometric locks.

This Service may contain links to other sites (such as emergency contact dialing). If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site or application. Note that these external sites and services are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites or services.
